Original Russian WWII Maxim M1910 Fluted Display Machine Gun with Sokolov Mount & Accessories - dated 1939
Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. One of our very last! This original WWII issue Russian M-1910 Maxim was built to BATF approved specs using one of our all original Russian stunning parts sets assembled on our BATF compliant steel dummy non-firing receiver incorporating some internal parts. This was made using two BATF compliant new made dummy side plates, which are three times as thick as the originals without any functional components, making this a 100% legal display machine gun. These were attached to an original barrel trunion, floor plate, spade grip, and top cover, which may have been altered to fit. The internal components have been deactivated and narrowed to fit inside the display receiver, making this totally legal to own without a license of any kind.
This example looks to be mostly made up of WWII Era parts, though it may have some WWI era parts, as did many of the guns the Russians used during WWII. It also includes an original Ammo can with steel belt (where permitted) to complete the look! This example was acquired from the A.A.F. Tank Museum, which unfortunately recently had to close, and had been part of their collection.
Features of this set include in this set are-
- All original Russian issue MG parts.
- Newly made BATF approved side plates.
- Original M1910 Fluted Steel Water Jacket
- Top cover marked with a large electric pen engraved ARROW in a STAR and date 1939г. (short for год, the Russian word for "year"). This indicates that the top cover was manufactured at Tula Arsenal in the Soviet Union, and was most likely captured during the "Winter War". Above this is the [SA] Finnish arsenal marking, and below it is marked with serial No. ЧЕ174. The serial ЧЕ174 is also stamped on the cover below the rear sight, and on the top cover latch.
- Very early back sight with circular elevation knob which measured in "ARSHINS", later model used a more simplified MG 08 type back sight graduated in meters.
- Excellent reproduction Sokolov Mount Shield, painted with period correct paint.
- Soviet WWII Ammo Can in excellent condition with Maxim Steel Belt (where permitted).
- Steel excellent condition Sokolov wheeled mount, complete with the hard to find piano-shaped "lock box" for a spare lock.
Some parts of this gun must have led a romantic existence, serving for close to half a century before being captured by the Finnish during the "Winter War", and then possibly used during that conflict and the later "Continuation War". After that it remained in the hands of the Finnish Army and has had SA markings added in various places on the gun and mount, for which stands for Suomen Armeija, the Finnish Army. Virtually all of the Russian Maxims available on the market came out of Finland, just as this example.
This is really an excellent example, which will make a great display piece in any collection!
The PM M1910 (Пулемёт Максима на станке Соколова, Pulemyot Maxima na stanke Sokolova or "Maxim's machine gun model 1910 on Sokolov's mount") was a heavy machine gun used by the Russian Army during World War I and the Red Army during World War II. It was adopted in 1910 and was derived from Hiram Maxim's Maxim gun, chambered for the standard Russian 7.62x54mmR rifle cartridge. The M1910 was mounted on a wheeled mount (Sokolov) with a gun shield and was replaced in Soviet service by the SG-43 Goryunov, starting in 1943. In addition to the main infantry version, there were aircraft mounted (PV-1) and naval variants.
